About the Business Course

This full time business course in Dublin will provide students with the relevant knowledge and skills to empower them to make a significant contribution within modern business, commercial or administrative environments. The business course is for school leavers who wish to pursue a career in business, enterprise or related fields and also mature students who wish to improve their career prospects. The learning process in this course involves lectures, tutorials, practicals, workshops, case studies and interactive learning. Lecturers actively encourage participation in classes. This course has particular emphasis on both finance and information technology.

Entry requirements

Access is facilitated through the standard CAO route. A minimum of five Leaving Certificate passes, including English and maths, is required. Mature students (aged 23 and above) should apply directly. Entry routes are also available through a range of expressed agreements with FETAC programmes, professional awarding bodies and through IBAT’s RPL policy.

International students should apply directly. Students who have qualifications from overseas will be subject to checks. IBAT College uses a number of comparision systems, such as NARIC and the NQAI Qualifications Recognition system, to compare and establish equivalency of international awards. An IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent is required for non-native English speakers.

Darren Devereux - Marketing and Consumer Behaviour Lecturer

Darren has over 9 years management experience in some of Irelands leading Health Clubs. He still works closely with the fitness industry in terms of conducting market research, with a specific interest in identifying new customer segments, analysing marketing performance and implementing sales and marketing plans. Darren holds a BA(Hons) in Business Management, an M.Sc. in International Business and a C.I.S.M form the Irish Management institute. Darren is a member of the Marketing Institute of Ireland and his research interests are centered on Consumer Behaviour, Symbolic Consumption, and The Self-Concept.

Joe Fitzgerald – Research methods Lecturer

Joe Fitzgerald is Programme Manager at IBAT College Dublin with responsibility for overseeing both our HETAC and FETAC Programmes. Having studied both in Ireland and Canada, Joe obtained a 1st Class Honours Degree in Marketing and is now pursuing a PhD. Joe has presented research papers to the Discourse Analysis Group at DIT and at the CADAAD 2012 conference at the University of Minho in Braga. He has also recently had an academic article published in the Irish Communications Review. Additionally, Joe is a member of DIT’s Research Committee and was awarded a Fiosraigh Research Materials Support Scholarship in 2010.

Mark Dean – IS/IT Lecturer
Mark is an IT professional with over 19 years industry experience. Over this period he has accumulated knowledge and skills from numerous sectors ranging from education through to manufacturing and banking. He has been involved in many IT roles including software developer, team leader, systems analyst, and corporate IT trainer. Mark holds a Bachelor of Science from Trinity College and has lectured on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Jeff Taylor - Management and Organisational Behaviour.

Jeff has five years lecturing experience chiefly in the Management and Event Management domain. Through his experiences in the event management industry, Jeff brings real world example and a practical knowledge into the classroom. Jeff has worked at major interational festivals such as Oxegen and Slane Castle. Jeff maintains links with the industry via brandtactics.ie. Jeff is currently a Phd researcher in Dublin Institute Technology, studying creativity and innovation in business education.

Colm Dunne – Business and Economics Lecturer

Colm has over 20 years lecturing and in excess of 30 years training experience, mainly in the Management Sector. His industry experience includes both large and medium organisations.Colm holds an M.A., B.Sc. (Mgmt), a Postgraduate Certificate in Training and Education and is currently studying for an M.Sc. in Education and eLearning. He lectures in a variety of Business and Management topics together with Economics and Business Mathematics. Colm has worked as a lecturer with IBAT for a number of years and has also lectured in a number of other colleges and institutes of education.


Ruth O Leary – Accountancy Lecturer

Ruth O'Leary ACMA BBS MSc spent 13 years in industry working with Motorola, Microsoft, Serco Services and Logica CMG in various accounting roles. She has been a Member in Practice since 2005 running her own company providing accounting services. Ruth has also been lecturing part time since 2005 in the areas of financial accounting, management accounting, financial management and introductory level accounting modules at FETAC and HETAC levels 6 to 8.

 

Jackie Kennedy – Human Resource Management Lecturer

Jackie has an MA in Strategic Human Resource Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Learning & Teaching. She has extensive lecturing experience in private and state 3rd level institutions in Ireland and Asia. She teaches subjects in Business Communications, Management, Human Resource Management, and Strategy at post graduate and undergraduate levels. Jackie has over 20 years’ experience as a senior HR professional in the Financial Services sector, in both senior management positions and as an independent HR consultant. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and of the Society of Human Resource Management in the US.

Robert Harte – eBusiness and Web Authoring Lecturer

Robert graduated from DCU with a BSc in Computer Applications. On completion he spent time teaching computing in the United Arab Emirates. He worked for a number of years in the Software Development and Architecture Department at AIB Capital Markets. He attained a Masters in Interactive Digital Media from TCD in 2011. Robert is currently teaching Creative Digital Media at CCT and works as a Freelance Web Developer at NOHO Ltd.

John Murtagh - Business & Management Lecturer
John has over 25 years senior management experience with a number of large multi-national companies in the Information Technology sector. During this period he was responsible for Customer Service Delivery, Business Operations and Supply Chain Management for Ireland, Europe, Middle East and Africa. John was awarded an International Executive MBA by the Smurfit Business School (UCD). He holds numerous other educational qualifications, including Diplomas in Logistics Management awarded by the Dutch Federation of Industry (DEBAK) and TEFL
