Student Life
Swords is perfect for student life; vibrant and full of activity, yet compact enough to get around easily. There are countless pubs and numerous restaurants and cafes in the Swords area too. Culturally, Dublin has it all: cinemas (mainstream, international, and independent), major theatre productions, concert halls, art galleries and museums, and numerous clubs and venues for dance, urban, jazz, rock, pop, and folk music.
College Facilities
The college is particularly well resourced in terms of support and information, and facilities are improving all the time, with a new chill-out room, coffee dock, and ample computing facilities. Our coffee dock provides an area for students to relax and mingle with fellow colleagues.
IT and Library Resources
IT resources available to students include new wireless Internet access, PCs, printing facilities, Student Intranet and Moodle, which is the new course management service. Moodle is ideal for all students, full-time and part-time as it provides close collaboration between the lecturer and students. Our library is a developing facility with currently over 300 titles; students have access to significant Internet resources and subscriptions.
Work
Situated near Dublin, IBaT is ideally located to network with leading businesses and employers’ based here. Not only are our courses up-to-date with the latest industry developments, but we have some of the best lecturers from business and industry backgrounds. There are also many part-time work opportunities in Dublin for those students wishing to supplement their income whilst studying (international students are usually permitted to work up to 20 hours a week during term-time).
Sport and Internest Groups
Get involved in sport! There are plenty of opportunities to join local sports clubs such as football, cricket, tennis and badminton. We encourage students to join a club or activity in which you have an interest. These interest groups can include academic related, charitable, cultural, performing arts, political, religious, competitive and non-competitive sports.
Now, more than ever, sport is a vital part of college life as it offers all its participants the opportunity to remain fit and healthy and enables students to balance the pressures of academic life. Local sports clubs include: Swords Celtic Football Club, St Finians GAA Club, Swords Rugby Football Club and Malahide Cricket Club.
