Course Overview
Accounting Technicians are qualified accounting professionals that work at all levels of finance. They can work in all types of organisations and are widely employed throughout the public sector, industry and commerce and in private accounting practices. Accounting Technicians can work on their own or alongside professional accountants. Graduates of this course can expect to leave with the knowledge, skills and techniques required by the modern professional accountant.
Where will this take my career?
While the accounting technician qualification is in itself an excellent route into a rewarding career in Finance, many students can use ATI as an alternative route onto one of the main professional accountancy qualifications – ACCA, ACA, CPA, or CIMA. On successful completion of the ATI (Accounting Technicians Ireland) qualification the candidate is eligible for transfer to these Professional
Who accredits this course?
Accounting Technicians in Ireland (ATI) is the leading accounting technician body in Ireland with over 10,000 members and students. ATI is a partner body with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, the oldest and largest body of Accountants in Ireland. As members of the Institute, individuals are entitled to put the letters MATI after their name, seen by many employers as essential when hiring.
Certification
Prospective students must register and be accepted as student members of the ATI, strict deadlines apply. As part of this course learners must secure employment within a relevant accounting environment.

The timetable for each of the subjects is structured to provide a focused tuition section, dedicated revision sessions including a corrected mock exam. |
Am I eligable for the course?
Leaving Certificate – Five passes on Ordinary papers to include either Mathematics or Accountancy.
FETAC, HETAC Award holders may be entitled to exemptions.
How long is the course?
The ATI course is taught annually two evenings a week from September (6.30-9.15pm).

| Martin Quinn – IATI Financial Accounting 1 and II Lecturer A Charted Management Accountant since 1994, Martin has a BA(Hons) in Business Studies and an MSc in Management and Applications of IT in Accounting. Martin has worked in manufacturing firms in Ireland for 11 years prior to starting an academic career. Martin spent several years with a small indigenous manufacturing firm and 8 years in a global paper company. He has acquidarkblue intimate knowledge of the paper and packaging industry in both finance and information technology fields. Martin is currently undertaking a PhD research degree. |

| Isolde Hampson – IATI Taxation 1 and II Lecturer Isolde is an Assistant Principal with the Revenue Commissioners. She heads up the business incentives area dealing with Film Productions and Research & Development. Nine of her thirty years in Revenue were spent as a Revenue Auditor and six as a lecturer in Revenue’s Training Branch. She taught Taxation and Accountancy in Revenue’s Diploma in Applied Taxation, which is accdarkblueited by University of Limerick. Isolde holds a First Class BBS Honours Degree in Financial and Management Accounting. She has been teaching Taxation 1 and Taxation 2 on the IATI programme since 2002. She joined IBaT in 2006. |

| Cliodna McAleer – Law & Ethics Lecturer Cliodna holds a Barrister-at-Law Degree from the Honorable Society of Kings Inns, a Bachelor of European Business and Legal Studies from University College Dublin and a Graduate Diploma in Information Technology from Dublin City University. Having previously worked in the business sector and now a practicing Barrister-at-Law Cliodna brings her extensive experience in both law and business to her teaching practice enabling her to deliver an in-depth and high quality Corporate and Business Law programme. |

| Paula Daly Hayes – Management Accounting Lecturer Paula is a qualified accountant and a graduate of DCU where she was awarded a Bachelor of Business. She has worked at a senior level in different sectors, ranging from retail to manufacturing based in Ireland, the UK and Germany. Paula has experience in the public sector having acted as a financial adviser in relation to EU funding. She is now using the practical experiences gained in industry to deliver accountancy modules on the Management Accounting module on IATI. |

Rosemary is experienced in developing and delivering high quality programmes and brings a wealth of practical experience to her teaching practice. | Barry Smith – Business & Finance Lecturer Barry Smith, chartered accountant, has been teaching accounting and finance since 2001. He spent five years teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Dublin City University Business School. In 2006, he left Dublin City University to establish his own business developing online accounting and finance educational content. Barry continues to teach ACCA and ACA accounting courses on a freelance basis and has recently authored a financial accounting textbook for McGraw-Hill publishers. Prior to working at DCU, he spent five years working with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New Zealand, Germany and Zimbabwe. Barry holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from University College Dublin and is currently completing PhD research at the University of Birmingham, UK. |
