Course Overview

This level 8 Bachelor of Business (Hons.) - Information Systems provides students with up to date knowledge of the current trends in computing and develops the skills required for managing and supporting Information Systems across all areas of an organisation.

It will provide a deeper understanding of Business Information Systems whilst continuing to develop practical skills in functional areas such as HRM and Marketing.

What are my career prospects

Graduates of this programme can support organizations by acquiring more accurate information quickly, thereby helping them complete business transactions faster and make better business decisions. The increasing central role that Business Information Systems plays in practically all organizations means that graduates will be well positioned for a variety of careers in manufacturing, retail, financial, telecommunications and service industries.

Graduates can take advantage of the many career opportunities in management or information technology or a variety of related disciplines. Graduates can also expect to be accepted onto a wide range of Masters courses in Universities and Colleges across the globe.

This course is accredited by (HETAC) The Higher Education and Training Awards Council. HETAC is the qualifications awarding body for third-level educational institutions outside of the university sector.

Am I eligable for the course?

Applicants require a HC3 in two subjects and passes in four other subjects at H or I grade in five subjects at ordinary level in the Leaving Certificate to include Maths and English.

Students holding a relevant Certificate, Diploma or other relevant third level qualification may qualify for entry to the second or third year of this degree course.

Rosemary Deneher – Business & Management Lecturer Rosemary combines a strong academic background with extensive experience in the business sector, including a number of year’s managerial experience. Rosemary holds a BA in Business and HRM from the NCI and a Masters Degree (MSc) in Education and Training Management from DCU. Rosemary is experienced in developing and delivering high quality programmes and brings a wealth of practical experience to her teaching practice. She lectures in Business, Business Management and People Management
Paul Lydon – Business & Finance Lecturer Paul has lecture extensively in Financial and Management Accounting over the past five years in private and state colleges including both ACCA and ICAI students. Prior to 2002, Paul worked as a professional accountant for many years. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants and holds an MBS in Marketing and Entrepreneurship.
Cliodna McAleer – Business & Law Lecturer Cliodna holds a Barrister-at-Law Degree from the Honorable Society of Kings Inns, a Bachelor of European Business and Legal Studies from University College Dublin and a Graduate Diploma in Information Technology from Dublin City University. Having previously worked in the business sector and now a practicing Barrister-at-Law Cliodna brings her extensive experience in both law and business to her teaching practice enabling her to deliver an in-depth and high quality Corporate and Business Law programme.
Mark Dean – IS/IT Lecturer Mark is an IT professional with over 17 years industry experience. Over this period he has accumulated knowledge and skills from numerous sectors ranging from education through to manufacturing and banking. He has been involved in many IT roles including software developer, team leader, systems analyst, and corporate IT trainer. Mark holds a Bachelor of Science from Trinity College and has lectured on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as professional programmes such as IATI and ACCA.
James O’Connor – Business & Finance Lecturer James has been lecturing, specialising in business related subjects on Masters, Professional and Undergraduate academic programmes for a number of years. He is also responsible for the design and delivery of business related training modules for corporate clients. He has previously lectured with the D.I.T. and V.E.C. He holds an honours M.B.A. from D.C.U. as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Training and Education. Prior to going into full-time training, James has worked for three separate and distinct multinational companies (American, Japanese and Irish) in various management roles. He is a confident lecturer and his style is very supportive to accommodating and enhancing upon a positive student academic experience
Helen McGlew – Business Lecturer After qualifying with a BA in Applied Languages, Helen gained an MA in European Studies and an MBA, before becoming qualified in teaching IT. Prior to teaching Helen spent a number of years working as a senior project manager in an IT company. She has been lecturing for six years in a variety of business and IT subjects and has also worked as a Director of Studies and academic registrar
Lisa Donaldson – Business, Marketing & IT Lecturer Lisa is an experienced lecturer who has been teaching for over 14 years. During this time, Lisa has taught in both the academic and corporate sectors. She has previously lectured Business and IT subjects at Griffith College and led the Training Teams in Esat BT and Software Paths. Lisa has also founded & managed 2 small businesses and brings extensive real life work experience to her teaching role. She has undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Business and IT from Northeastern University, Trinity College Dublin and Dublin City University. She lectures in Systems Analysis & Design, Business Applications and Marketing.
Olivia Edge – Business & Finance Lecturer Olivia has over 12 years account management experience in leading multi-national companies in the digital electronics and software industries. Over this time she has amassed experience in strategic business development and deployment, sales operations, price negotiations, customer relationship management and marketing management. She holds a Bachelor in Business Studies and a Masters by Research in Business Studies. She lectures a variety of business subjects including International Marketing, Strategic Management, Project Management and Organisational Behaviour.
Adrienne Gallagher – Business & Finance Lecturer Adrienne is a qualifiedaccountant with 15 years experience in the Financial Services sector both in Ireland and in a Pan European context. Having worked for companies such as Bank of Ireland, Standard Life and Royal Bank of Scotland, she gained extensive experience in finance, IT Management and HR. She lectures in Financial Accounting, Business Maths and Quantitative Methods
Barry Smith – Business & Finance Lecturer Barry Smith, chartered accountant, has been teaching accounting and finance since 2001. He spent five years teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Dublin City University Business School. In 2006, he left Dublin City University to establish his own business developing online accounting and finance educational content. Barry continues to teach ACCA and ACA accounting courses on a freelance basis and has recently authored a financial accounting textbook for McGraw-Hill publishers. Prior to working at DCU, he spent five years working with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New Zealand, Germany and Zimbabwe. Barry holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from University College Dublin and is currently completing PhD research at the University of Birmingham, UK.
Paula Daly Hayes – Business & Finance Lecturer Paula is a qualified accountant and a graduate of DCU where she was awarded a Bachelor of Business. She has worked at a senior level in different sectors, ranging from retail to manufacturing based in Ireland, the UK and Germany. Paula has experience in the public sector having acted as a financial adviser in relation to EU funding. She is now using the practical experiences gained in industry to deliver accountancy modules on the Management Accounting module on IATI.
John Murtagh - Business & Management Lecturer John has over 25 years senior management experience with a number of large multi-national companies in the Information Technology sector. During this period he was responsible for Customer Service Delivery, Business Operations and Supply Chain Management for Ireland, Europe, Middle East and Africa. John was awarded an International Executive MBA by the Smurfit Business School (UCD). He holds numerous other educational qualifications, including Diplomas in Logistics Management awarded by the Dutch Federation of Industry (DEBAK) and TEFL
Keith Whitford – Business & Finance Lecturer Keith is a qualified accountant and tax consultant with over twelve years of experience in private practice, with the last three being as a sole-practitioner (under the name KPW & Co). Keith has been lecturing part time professional accounting courses (ACCA and IATI) for 5 out of the last 7 years
Martin Quinn – Business & Finance Lecturer A Charted Management Accountant since 1994, Martin has a BA(Hons) in Business Studies and an MSc in Management and Applications of IT in Accounting. Martin has worked in manufacturing firms in Ireland for 11 years prior to starting an academic career. Martin spent several years with a small indigenous manufacturing firm and 8 years in a global paper company. He has acquidarkblue intimate knowledge of the paper and packaging industry in both finance and information technology fields. Martin is currently undertaking a PhD research degree.
