Web Design Course Overview

Learning to design a website requires mastering many different skills from organizing the structure of the website, making sure it is easy to use and navigate, to designing the graphics and layout of the information. This web design course concentrates on the fundamentals of building a website. It starts with the basics, using HTML code to build a basic site giving the learner a solid foundation in how a website is designed. It then moves on to using a html editor - Adobe Dreamweaver - to design a website in a more user friendly environment.

Adobe Dreamweaver is the leading industry in web designing software and is used by the majority of major companies and organizations in Ireland and indeed the world. It allows the user to design web page templates and styles sheets which significantly reduces the time the web designer needs to spend on website design and maintenance. The final section of the web design course introduces the learner to Adobe Fireworks. Abobe Fireworks can be used to manipulate images, design rollover buttons and create a webpage layout which can be brought into Dreamweaver and used as a template for a website.

What are my career prospects

Upon completion of this web design course the learners will be able to design a basic website and maintain and update existing websites. They will have a good understanding of how HTML works, be competent using Dreamweaver and be able to do some basic image manipulation in Fireworks. It is suitable for students who want to pursue a career as a Web Designer.

Am I eligible for the Web Design course?

This course is suitable for people who are already competent PC users who wish to be able to design/maintain websites. The learners must be very familiar with browsing and using the web. Prior knowledge of website design would be an advantage but not a prerequisite.

Who accredits this Web Design course?

At the end of the program the students are requested to design and publish their own website. The student will be assessed upon their website design and awarded an IBaT Diploma in Web Design.

This course is also FETAC Accredited. FETAC is one of Ireland national awarding bodies. The student would then be awarded a FETAC Level 5 Component Award in Web Authoring.

How long is the Web Design course?

Mark Dean – Web Design / IS Lecturer Mark is an IT professional with over 17 years industry experience. Over this period he has accumulated knowledge and skills from numerous sectors ranging from education through to manufacturing and banking. He has been involved in many IT roles including software developer, team leader, systems analyst, and corporate IT trainer. Mark holds a Bachelor of Science from Trinity College and has lectured on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as professional programmes such as IATI and ACCA. He is the trainer on the Diploma in Web Design and currently maintains the IBAT College Website and Student Portal.
Morgan Campbell Desktop Publishing / Multimedia Lecturer Morgan has worked in the print and design industry for more than five years. He spent several years working in desk top publishing and graphic design departments in Ireland before travelling to the UK. During this time he worked on numerous high profile marketing campaigns and won several design and marketing awards. In 2007 he returned from England to complete a master’s degree in marketing and oversee the running of his own design and marketing enterprise.
