One of the fastest growing forms of treatment for athletes for the prevention of injuries, enhancing performance and in rehabilitation.The sports therapist applies a range of techniques including therapeutic soft tissue massage, gentile mobilisation and stretching techniques to restore function to muscles and joints, before, during and following sports participation.

This treatment is not just designed for those directly involved in sports. It is of great benefit to people who develop restrictions and pain from repetiitve movements, poor posture and sedentary lifestyles.

The Diploma in Sports Therapy is an add on module to the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage, students can elect to study this Diploma after they have completed their Diploma in Massage. Students who have not completed the ITEC Massage course can study for the ITEC Diploma in Sports massage and the ITEC Diploma in Massage therapy at the same time. Therefore students would receive two separate ITEC Diplomas but study them simultaneously

What are my career prospects

Sports Therapists are gaining huge recognition in the Ireland and the UK, and this has led to more and more companies, sports clubs and individuals, seeking their services. Graduates can seek entry into some of the following jobs: Osteopathic Assistant, Football Sports Therapist, Rugby Sports Therapist, Lecturing, Sports Injury Clinic, Private Practice, GP's Surgery, European Ski resort, Dance School.

Once a student has achieved the ITEC Diploma in Sports Massage they can also progress on to other ITEC awards for example:

  • Indian Head Massage
  • Reflexology

What are the entry requirements?

New candidates should contact IBaT College to discuss the entry requirements for this Course.

Candidates who currently hold an ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage can apply directly for the Course.

Candidates who do not currently hold an ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage have two options available.

  • Option 1: A candidate can first elect to complete the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage and then proceed to complete the Diploma in Sports Massage. (Two years in duration)
  • Option 2: A candidate can complete the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage and the Diploma in Sports Massage concurrently and receive both awards on completion of the Course. (One year in duration)

How long is the course?

The Diploma is delivered and assessed over 27 weeks.

What are the course fees?

The course fees are €1450 per year.
