This QQI (NFQ Level 7) programme is delivered over 24 Weeks, two evenings per week with some Saturday classes.
The two evenings are Tuesday 6.15pm - 9.30pm & Thursday 6.30pm - 8.30pm, while the Saturday's will be from 10.00am - 5.00pm.
PENDING QQI VALIDATION

The National Skills Bulletin 2020 reminds us that ongoing technological changes (in some case enhanced by the global pandemic) and the automation of processes will result in a need for enhanced digital skills across all occupations.  Looking specifically at digital transformation in organisations, there is much evidence that education and training are needed in this area.   The research group IDC forecast that by 2023, spending on digital transformation technologies and service will amount to €2.3 trillion worldwide, and that this will comprise over half of all ICT spending. Over three quarters of CIOs say digital transformation will be their biggest budget item of 2021 (Constellation Research). The Gartner group echo this, with their research showing 42% of CEOs already started on digital business transformation projects. These projects are vital to a Covid-19 world and also to a post-Covid-19 world. PwC report that while 52% of companies deferred or cut investments because of COVID-19, just 9% cut/deferred investment in digital transformation. These statistics are translating into job vacancies. At time of writing, the job site indeed.ie has 532 vacancies corresponding to the search term "Digital Transformation". 


The aim of the (QQI) Certificate in Digital Transformation for Organisations is to equip graduates with much sought-after skills in digital business transformation such that they can apply digital technologies to increase and enhance business processes in organisations or areas within organisations, making them more efficient, effective or removing the need for some business processes altogether.  It addresses the key areas of technology, data, process, and people to facilitate organisational change.  

The development is underpinned by embedding and assessing required skills throughout the programme.  An example is problem-solving.  In the Business Analysis module, earners use tools such as Business Process Mapping Notation (BPMN) to visually depict business scenarios and information flows therein, allowing for collaborative discussion on the key issues and blockages emerging and how they might be transformed by appropriate application of digital technologies. 

The primary objectives of this proposed programme are to:

  • Provide an industry-informed Special Purpose Award, Certificate in Digital Transformation for Organisations, attractive to those looking to reskill or upskill in digital business process skills in a supportive yet challenging academic environment.
  • Equip learners with specific knowledge and knowhow in the field of digital business processes, such that they can bring digital technology to design and re-design business in n a continuously evolving digital work environment.
  • Develop and enhance learners’ leadership and management skills.
  • Produce industry-ready graduates, complete with appropriate professional and personal attributes, ready to take up employment.
  • Instil in learners an ethos of continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Form active citizens with an understanding of their impact in the wider social context of digital-informed business activity.

The (QQI) Certificate in Digital Transformation for Organisations equip graduates with specialised digital business skills, knowledge and techniques to inform the design and redesign of business processes. This is done through modules specifically chosen with this purpose in mind and these modules are taught in a way that reminds learners of the importance of continuous digital evolution that drives forward the efficiency and effectiveness of business processes.  As such, graduates will be in a much better position to adapt to changing technology trends in applying digital technology to enhance business activities. 

The programme also carries a strong focus on personal and professional development of learners. They have an opportunity to develop leadership and management skills, as well as reflect on and document their own development through a personal development plan demonstrating their developing transversal skills.    

On successful completion of this (QQI) Certificate in Digital Transformation for Organisations, NFQ Level 7 programme the learner will be able to:

  1. Display specialised digital business skills, knowledge and techniques to inform the design and redesign of integrated business processes.
  2. Recognise and adapt to changing trends and technology in applying digital technology to enhance business activities.
  3. Evaluate and communicate the key issues and challenges in digital business transformation in the context of the current competitive and complex business environment.
  4. Construct innovative business models, informed by evolving and changing digital technology.
  5. Display leadership abilities in working with others.
  6. Develop a personal development plan demonstrating self-awareness of own transversal skills and competencies aligned through research to current employment opportunities.
  7. Articulate their internalised view of digital business transformation, taking account of its wider implications for business, society and community.

These programme learning outcomes address a number of key skills as follows:

  • Digital Skills – Learners will develop high digital literacy skills from this programme, from being able to evaluate cloud computing offerings to assessing the cyber-security risks inherent in a set of business processes. They will have the opportunity to determine and manage marketing requirements from digital sources, and use technology to communicate marketing plans and ideas.
  • Transversal Skills – these appear throughout the programme. Evaluating the key issues and challenges in a set of business processes requires students to develop critical thinking skills. The communication of these to a variety of audiences, e.g. classmates, lecturer, guest industry evaluators, etc., will further communication skills. Learners will work with each other, and in some cases with industry representatives to achieve prescribed ends, and thereby develop their inter-personal skills.
  • Leadership Skills - the programme allows leadership skills to emerge and flourish in a number of ways. Project management and leadership features in the Business Analysis module. Entrepreneurial leadership of processes and situations features in the Innovation Enterprise and Entrepreneurship module. Assessments also facilitate development of leadership skills as learners take charge of various aspects of various assessment projects and in-class activities in digital business transformation.
  • Future-proofing is emphasised in discussion and debate about evolving trends in digital technology to evolve and transform businesses on an ongoing basis such that graduates are in a strong position to keep up with changing trends in constantly transforming businesses.

QQI Award

The programme structure is designed to be delivered two nights a week for an academic year with some Saturday delivery.

The split between evenings and Saturdays facilitates the blended approach of online and face-to-face classes. Learners attend virtual classes online in the evenings and attend in-person on Saturdays.

The Personal and Professional Development runs through the second semester and culminates in a full evening at the end of the programme. This event is arranged with employers in attendance and will be timetabled on completion of the programme on the same evening of the week that the programme was delivered.

There is only one stage in this award. All modules are mandatory, equally weighted and contribute to the Award.

There are 30 ECTs (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) attributed to this programme, each module below is worth 5 ECTs.

MODULES INFORMATION - SEMESTER 1
Business Analysis

Module Description

On successful completion of this module, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the tools and techniques of a business analyst.
  2. Assess the importance of change management in business analysis.
  3. Evaluate the main steps in project management and their application to business analysis.
  4. Apply the technique of Business Process Mapping Notation.
  5. Analyse the need for Requirements Engineering.

Assessment Strategy

This module will be examined by continuous assessment (100%).
Students are required to produce an individual report on a given change management case scenario. The assessment requires the students to use Business Process Mapping software to map out business processes and carry out various manipulations to maximise efficiencies through the applications of various technologies. 

Cloud Computing for Business

On completion of this module the learner should be able to:

  1. Evaluate the role of IT in business and how cloud computing can be used to contribute to this.
  2. Explain in detail the core cloud computing principles and features to a business audience.
  3. Create and present a strategic plan for an organisation wanting to evaluate, adopt or readopt cloud computing for an organisation.
  4. Describe the key security and privacy issues associated with cloud computing and how they can be addressed.
  5. Articulate the financial impact that cloud computing can have on an organisation’s cost management, both long term and short term.


Assessment Strategy

This module will be examined by continuous assessment (100%). 
Students are required to create a detailed plan for an organisation adopting or re-adopting cloud computing.  A real-life scenario is given to learners, or alternatively they can choose a scenario from their own organisation. This must be approved by the lecturer beforehand.

Digital & Social  Media Marketing

  1. Explain the role of the digital channel in modern marketing communications.
  2. Evaluate the key concepts and theories that underpin digital marketing approaches.
  3. Create a digital marketing plan, drawing on appropriate planning frameworks.
  4. Demonstrate the key tools used in supporting, managing and measuring a digital media campaign.

Assessment Strategy

This module will be examined by means of a continuous assessment project (100%).
This module will be examined by means of a combination of continuous assessment project (in groups) (50%) and an individual practical report applying the knowledge acquired during the course (50%).

Cyber & Digital Security

On successful completion of this module, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply the concepts and principles of Information Security Management in a complex business environment, including security techniques and policies used to protect ICT systems, telecommunications and the company’s intellectual property.
  2. Research and analyse a suitable and viable Business Continuity Plan as applied to a real business environment.
  3. Explore the principles and approaches of web security, risk management and best practices in relation to cyber and digital security.
  4. Assess the ethical, legal and compliance regulations governing the protection, usage and processing of data from both internal and external sources.


Assessment Strategy

This module will be examined by means of a continuous assessment project (100%).
This continuous assessment project will involve the development of a Business Continuity Plan which for a case organisation. It will encompass areas in Business Impact Analysis, Risk Management and Disaster Recovery for a given scenario.The case study scenario is then expanded to include a clear and present threat to the organisation; learners are expected to document the most appropriate approach for business continuity; it will also include which elements of the Business Continuity Plan need to be initialised and executed based on the threat defined.

Innovation, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

  • Evaluate digital marketing structures and roles within an organisation
  • Manage digital marketing activities and people as part of marketing management practices
  • Assess a range of digital marketing channels for marketing communications and how they are effectively integrated and managed within an organization.
  • Explore current and future trends in marketing and the impact these trends might have on an organization and its environment.

Assessment Strategy

This module will be examined by means of a continuous assessment project (100%).
There is a group project where the learners will be given the opportunity to structure a marketing function within an organisation (50%), then produce a video presentation discussing topical content covered in the module and how it might influence an organization’s relationship with its immediate environment (50%).

Personal and Professional Development

On completion of this module the learner should be able to:

  1. Articulate self-awareness in relation to one’s own transferable skills, competencies, personal preferences, values and interests in relation to their chosen career.
  2. Conduct effective labour market research and demonstrate a clear understanding of employer needs and preferences.
  3. Develop a convincing personal brand. Produce an effective CV, cover letter and social media profile that clearly demonstrates a keen awareness of the perspective and needs of the potential employer. Prepare in a structured way for an interview and competently ‘sell’ themselves at mock interview.
  4. Write a personal development plan tailored to their own needs, detailing current and future action points.
  5. Develop and evaluate a personal and professional code of ethics.

Assessment Strategy

This module will be examined by means of a continuous assessment (100%).
Diversity of assessment will enable learners to demonstrate their capabilities and achievements in meeting the different learning outcomes. The assessment strategy for this module aims to assess the learner’s ability to research, interpret and organise information, solve problems, and develop effective communication plans and mechanisms.

Academic Requirements

Learners should have a minimum of an NFQ Level-6 qualification or equivalent for entry to this programme. The NARIC (National Academic Recognition Information Centre) database from QQI is used extensively to assess the qualifications of those presenting overseas qualifications. This can arise for applicants who are living in Ireland but obtained their qualifications overseas.

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) Route 

Applicants who do not have the academic requirements can still be considered under our Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) Route. An applicant applying on the basis of Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) must demonstrate their ability to succeed by providing evidence of current and prior learning and work experience, explaining their motivation, and how committed they are to succeeding on the course. These applicants are considered on the basis of their previous studies, both formal and non-formal, and relevant work and life experience. This means you must submit a detailed CV, personal statement outlining your motivation for studying now, 2 work based references and any documentation such as training courses that you completed. This will demonstrate your engagement in learning in different contexts and assuring a more timely decision on your application.

An applicant who is experiencing difficulties in obtaining 2 work based references due to COVID or other factors, maybe eligible for an interview which can also assess the applicant’s suitability for entry onto this programme.

English Requirements
 

For applicants whose first language is not English, a B2+ in CEFRL (IELTS Academic score of 6.0, or equivalent), is needed.
