Why Computer Hacking?

This course provides a framework for practical analysis of various network protocols using the Wireshark software. It will examine different cyber-attacks, describe how encryptions function, and cover password and OS cracking. In addition- in depth analysis of traffic patterns will facilitate a distinct understanding of normal network traffic and abnormal problematic traffic as well as well-known attack signatures.

Course Overview

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand basic cyber concepts
  • Acquire hands on experience with various popular tools and methods
  • Define various Cyber attacks
  • Understand the hashing concept
  • Understand key elements in penetration testing

What is a Professional Diploma?

An IBAT Professional Diploma is a focused, short duration practical course that consolidates, upskills and/or reskills learners in a professional area. They are stand-alone qualifications  that do not lead to an award on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

Course Content

  • Encryption, algorithms and hashes - encryption technologies (protocols, methods, encryption tools), cryptographic attacks, cryptographic cracking of accounts and sites, malware attacks (viruses, worms) and trojans.
  • Windows & Linux password storage and encryption - technical concepts of OS, review other common operation systems and define the differences between open-source OS and Mac/ Windows's password storage and encryption.
  • Using Wireshark for traffic interception & analysis - the fundamentals of Wireshark software and practice working with the software.
  • Man-In-The-Middle (MITM) attack - general cyberattacks and malwares, specifically MITM, DOS and DDOS.
  • Password cracking techniques & tools - the main password cracking techniques and the different tools available.
  • Creating combinator lists for password cracking - create a combinator list for password cracking, understand how to form a combinator list for password cracking.
  • OS Hacking (cracking windows\ Linux passwords) - how to hack different operation systems and practice cracking windows and Linux passwords.
  • WIFI Hacking (cracking WIFI password) - how to hack WIFI connections, cracking passwords following a demonstration in class.


The programme is assessed by on-going quizzes.  There is no formal exam.

Entry Requirements

This course is very much applied in nature and intended for those with a strong IT admin background.  Firm knowledge & understanding in computer network & protocols is required, as is previous working experience (at least 1 year) in any computer network & protocols, System-Administration or Cyber security.
