Course Overview

This course aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of key aspects in the fitness and exercise industry. It will also introduce you to exercise techniques, and develop Fitness tests and Programmes for the fitness industry.

On completion of the course you should be able to understand training programmes, understand exercise physiology, as well as demonstrate the skills required to plan and instruct exercises in a fitness environment. Successful completion of this course will allow candidates to assess clients and will aid in gaining entry to the sports and leisure industry.

Course Structure and Assessment

The Diploma in Fitness and Lifestyle Management runs for 11 weeks (part-time), one evening per week from 6.30-9.30pm. You will be assessed from a presentation (50%) and practical demonstration (50%).

Lecturer Profile: Paul Curley

Paul Curley

Paul began his career in Sport Injury Rehabilitation in 2003 giving him over 13 years' experience across the Health, Sport and Science Industry. With over 11 years lecturing experience he has successfully combined his qualifications, working knowledge and practical experience in helping students gain the necessary skills to train, work and succeed in the Sport Industry.

Through his experience in the Sporting Industry, Paul brings real world examples and a practical knowledge into the classroom. Paul has worked at major international events including the London Olympics 2012 and various football clubs including Wolverhampton Wonderers. He has maintained strong industrial links via The Irish Sports council and continues to work, lecture and expand his knowledge in this field.

  • James Claffey- Sports Management and Development Lecturer

    James has eight years lecturing experience chiefly in Sport and Exercise Psychology. He holds an Honours degree in Recreation, Sport & Exercise and has also completed a Masters in Sport and Exercise Psychology. He is registered with BASES (the British Association of Sport Exercise Sciences) as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist. As well as lecturing, James works one to one with individual athletes and teams in the Sport and Exercise Psychology arena. He has over 12 years experience in Sports Coaching and the educational training area. James also also developed the Sport Psychology module for Quality & Qualifications Ireland, which is delivered by a number of third level institutions nationwide. James has a wide and diverse range of industry experience which includes working with awarding bodies such as NCEF, IFP, ITEC, BTEC , FETAC, HETAC, QQI, and ISTD.
