Tips for International Students

Please contact our International Admissions team by stating your nationality, current location, name and phone number. Currently, IBAT Dublin uses the Irish Qualification Recognition Service and the UK’s National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) to map international qualifications onto the Irish Framework. For applicants whose first language is not English an IELTS certificate may also be required. International applicants who require a Visa should use the services of an overseas education consultant/education agent. IBAT Dublin works closely with selected agencies overseas. Visa Application & Status:

Depending on your nationality you may be required to apply for a visa to study in Ireland. For full and complete information on visa requirements please follow this link: http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Irish%20Visa%20Information.

It is the enrolling students responsibility to inform us when they have submitted their visa application. A visa reference number and date of submission of visa application is required. A full list of the required documents for visa application can be seen www.inis.gov.ie. Should your visa application be refused a refund (Less a €300 administration fee) will be returned to you. Please note that we reserve the right not to refund fees where false, fraudulent or fake documents have been submitted as part of a visa application. Should your visa application be successful you are required to send confirmation to us directly with a copy of the stamp on your passport.

Please allow sufficient time to process the visa application as this can take anything from 4-16 weeks to process.

You will also need to advise us when you hope to travel before the start of the course so that we can provide additional details to you such as; accommodation, timetables, registration and induction schedule and possible part-time job opportunities available (if required).

Learner Protection Policy (English Language programmes)

IBAT Dublin is a member of Marketing English in lreland (MEl), www.mei.ie. Marketing English in lreland (MEl) member schools espouse Learner Protection, thereby being able to guarantee to students that they will be able to complete all language courses for which they are enrolled. This policy is set out as a condition of membership within the MEI Bye-Laws Section 2.3 (E)
“ln the interests of Learner Protection MEI members must agree that, in the event of an MEI school going unexpectedly out of business, they will accept students whose course of tuition in the closed school has not yet expired. The allocation of such students to member schools will be managed by the MEI office.”

Medical Insurance Requirement:

All Visa requiring international students are required to have private medical insurance, either personally or through a group scheme at time of registration. To support you meeting this requirement IBAT Dublin’s tuition fees for visa requiring international students includes payment an approved insurance policy, which the College purchases for you upon receipt of full tuition fee payment.

Protection for Enrolled Learners

Learner Protection is provided by Arachas Learner Protection Programme and underwritten by Aviva Insurance Ltd. The current fee is 3.5% of the tuition fee. Protection of Enrolled Learners in accordance with section 65(4)(b) of the Qualifications and Quality Assurance (Education and Training) Act 2012 (hereafter the 2012 Act), are covered under this agreement for the duration of the agreement.

This is the most important check. It depends on your nationality (the country that issued your passport), not where you currently live.

Visa Required Countries: You must apply for your visa from your home country or where you legally reside before traveling. This can take up to 4 months, so plan!

Non-Visa Required Countries: You don’t need a visa to enter, but you will go through “Border Control” at the airport. You’ll still need to bring all your documentation to show the officer.

Ireland wants to ensure you’re comfortable during your stay. Especially Dublin, is a major European hub – It’s vibrant and exciting, but the cost of living, especially housing, is high. These funds are your safety net!

You’ll need to prove that you have sufficient savings to cover your costs without needing immediate employment.

English Language Courses: You must show at least €6,665.
Higher Education (Access / Bachelor / HD / Masters): You’ll need at least €10,000.

Financial Requirements

Maximum of 15 Students per class

There is no minimum level required to enter our English classes. However, you will be asked to take our online placement test in advance to help us place you in a class appropriate to your standard of English.

You can also open a ticket through https://my.ibat.ie/helpdesk/create-ticket. Once you have completed the required fields and explained your issue, a member of the Academic team will assist you.

You can open  a bank account at any of the banks; AIB Bank, Bank of Ireland, Ulster Bank, Permanent TSB, KBC Bank.

You will need to make an appointment with the bank first to open up an account. The documentation will you need is your Passport and proof of your Irish address i.e. a utility bill (phone, gas, electricity bill).  If you do not have a utility bill in your name and address, most banks will accept a letter from the

The Application Process (The “AVATS” Step)
If you need a visa, you’ll use the online system called AVATS.

Fill it out: Head to the Online Visa Application. Answer everything honestly.
The Summary Form: Once you submit, the system generates a summary. Print, sign, and date this. It will tell you exactly where to send your physical documents.

Your Checklist of Documents:

– Enrolment: Letter of Enrolment / Proof of tuition payment.
– Medical Health Insurance: Mandatory for your entire stay in Ireland.
– Accommodation: Proof of booking – at least 2 weeks – will be required specially on border control.
– Return Ticket: Required if your course is less than 1 year. will be required specially on border control.
 
The immigration authorities assess each application individually on its merits, based on its specific characteristics, and decisions are made independently. Also, the visa officer can request additional information or documentation.


Just Landed and do not need a visa? Getting your IRP – Irish Residence Permit

Once you arrive in Ireland, the journey isn’t over. Everyone staying longer than 90 days must apply for IRP.

How to apply: It’s all online now via the Immigration Portal.
The Cost: €300 (paid during your appointment in Dublin).
The Wait: Currently, it takes about 90 to 120 days to process your first residence permit.

Your Checklist of Documents:

All requests for letters are done via the IBAT Portal.

Enter your @ibat.ie email/username and password, then select the ‘Student Letter Request’ button on the main screen.

You can request up to 4 weeks of holidays during their course. All the holidays need to be taken for a full week i.e. from Monday to Friday. They can take 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks without providing any additional documentation.

You do need to study for at least 10 weeks before requesting holidays

Your attendance needs to be 70% or higher

You also need to request their holidays 2 weeks before

Changing Campus is not possible. Once you are assigned to either of our campuses, you cannot change it after your course starts.

To change your level, you need to take and pass our level test. The level test takes place every 6 weeks and is available to all the students. You need to take all parts of the test and you need to score overall at least 70% to change level.
