Why Cyber Security

Cyber security protects the data and integrity of communication and computing assets belonging, or connecting, to an organisation's network. Its purpose is to defend those assets, and organisational data, against all threat actors throughout the entire life cycle of a cyber-attack. Ireland's reputation as a cutting-edge technology centre has resulted in the development of cutting-edge courses such as Cyber Security.

This course will:

  • Discuss the laws that are in use to try and regulate the internet.
  • Discuss and assess the various threats posed by internet crime in its many varieties.
  • Provide a framework for you to immerse yourself in the pressing issues of cyber security and obtain the information you need to make the best decisions for the defence of your organisation, and its digital infrastructure.

Did you know that in the field of Cyber Security, there is a projected demand for 1 million jobs, which might rise to 2 million by 2022?

Course Details

Decision makers must be familiar with and act on the principles and best practices of cyber security to best protect their enterprises, and digital assets. The programme offers a broad understanding, along with some of the technical aspects of cyber security. It provides a framework on which learners may immerse in the pressing issues of cyber security and obtain the information needed to make the best decisions for the defence of an organisation, and its digital infrastructure.

During the programme you will learn about securing computer networks, systems vulnerabilities, cybercrimes and internet fraud.  You will learn about protecting data, privacy in the digital world, security controls, as well as risk response development, disaster recovery and business continuity, and ethics and legal requirements of cyber and digital security.

Assessment is done through an assignment that is completed during the term, and an exam at the end of term.  Both are equally weighted.

Real great short course in cyber security . the teacher is very good both in knowledge of subject and his presentation style of lectures are friendly and practical . the course comes alive when the assignment was giving out which is reflection based on material learned. by doing the assignment I learned so much. It felt like a mini masters thesis in some ways but at diploma level. really happy with course as the structure is based on learning from other students input . If you willing to work hard and put the time into the assignment and course you will gain so much from this short course.
