Less than 20% of the Irish ICT industry is made up of women meaning there is a great disparity between the genders in the field. Although this figure is higher than the European average (which stands at 17%), there is still a lot of work to be done to create greater equality.
In addition to this, the European ICT industry is expected to experience a shortfall of at least 700,000 ICT professionals; as such there is a necessity to try to get more people, and in particular women, into the field.
To help tackle this issue, IBAT College Dublin has launched a Women in Tech Scholarship which aims to provide financial support for women looking to start their careers in the ICT field. IBAT offers a range of ICT-oriented programmes which teach skills in computer programming, data analytics and desktop publishing.
